Third Ondo COVID-19 Patient Not a Corps Member– Akeredolu
The Governor of Ondo State, Rotimi Akeredolu, has denied the report that the state’s third coronavirus patient was a member of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC.
On Tuesday morning, Ondo State Commissioner for Information, Mr Donald Ojogo, confirmed that the third victim was a corps member and medical doctor.
He said, ” The third positive case in Ondo State is a medical doctor; he is a Youth Corp member attached to the Army Clinic at the Barracks and had attended to the first index case while he was under observation.
“Mr. Governor will today at noon, address the people of the state on further details in respect of this case and provide deeper insights.”
However, Akeredolu said on Twitter on Tuesday that the case was a former NYSC member who served in the barracks and was retained after the service year.

Akeredolu tweeted, “Important clarification on the 3rd #COVID19 case in Ondo. Infected person is not an @officialnyscng corps member as stated online. Individual was an ex corps member that served in the Barracks and was retained.
“As it is typical for all cases, all protocol for contact tracing has been activated with those closest to the new case kept in isolation for observation. #TakeResponsibility.”
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on Monday night announced the third confirmed COVID-19 case in Ondo as part of the 20 new cases.
