UPDATE:Fire Guts Oando Filling Station, Obalende

An Oando filling station at Obalende, Lagos caught fire on Friday.
According to the Acting Head, Lagos State Fire Service, Mrs Adeseye Margaret, the fire broke out when a 33,000 litres fully loaded tanker conveying petroleum motor spirit belonging to the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, reportedly lost control while negotiating a bend in front of the filling station.
Adeseye said this in a situation report from the Lagos State Fire Service on Friday.
According to the report: “A fire broke out in front of Oando Petroleum Filling Station as the alert was consequently received by multiple sources at the Control and Command room of the Lagos State Fire Service at about 1715hrs on the evening of Friday, May 1, 2020.

“I quickly mobilized Fire Crews from 4 divisions to the scene at Obalende Road, by St Gregory College Road, Obalende, Lagos Island. On arrival, it was discovered that a 33,000 litres fully loaded tanker conveying petroleum motor spirit belonging to the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, reportedly lost control while negotiating bend in front of the filling station. The lone accident led to massive Fire resulting from the contents spillage.
“It is worthy to note that contrary to social media insinuations, it is only the PMS tanker that was severely burnt by the Fire which was met well alight but curtailed from spreading by the tenacity of the Firefighters.
“Other respondents included the Federal Fire Service, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, Union Bank Fire Department, United Bank for Africa Fire Unit, OVH Energy Fire Department, Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps and the Nigerian Police.”
