Police Nab Fake Military Personnel Smuggling 1200kg Of Marijuana

The Lagos State Police Command on Wednesday apprehended two men who presented themselves as military personnel and were in possession of about 1,200kg of Marijuana.

The suspects, a  dismissed soldier,  Okoliko Andrew, and his accomplice, Idowu Adebayo, were allegedly conveying drugs with their vehicle  before they were intercepted around Itowolo , Ikorodu area of the state.

An24.net learnt that they were initially stopped by the Lagos State Taskfotce for plying Bus Rapid Transport (BRT) corridor around Itowolo, an offence which contravenes the state traffic laws.

They claimed to be military personnel but upon further interrogation by the police operatives attached to the state’s Task Force team, it was discovered that the suspects were smuggling substances.

An eyewitness said that the suspects tried but could not bail themselves out of the trouble.

“But trouble started when they failed to properly identify themselves as they had earlier claimed during initial interrogation. So, acting with on spot intelligence, the task force team stopped them and upon further interrogation, they discovered they were carrying banned substances which led to their arrest,” he said.

It was gathered that 25 bags of 50kg Marijuana were recovered from the suspects.

They were said to have confessed that they were offered N50,000 to deliver the Marijuana to someone at Sura Market, Lagos Island.

The suspects were reportedly driving two vehicles; Toyota Corolla with registration number CE APP 903FR and a Peugeot 307 with registration CB 686 ABJ.

The Lagos Police command spokesman Bala Elkana has confirmed the arrest.

He said: “The suspects are in our custody, the vehicle and exhibits are also recovered. We have commenced investigation into the case. Not sure whether they are impersonators, fake or dismissed soldiers as reported but investigation will reveal please.”
