Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State on Saturday received his certificate of return after emerging the gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP ahead of the September 19, 2020 governorship election.
He received the certificate of return at the Wadata Plaza, headquarters of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Abuja.
The event was attended by the PDP national chairman, Uche Secondus and Governor Bala Mohammed, chairman of the Edo electoral panel and members of the committee.
The State’s Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu was also at the party’s national secretariat for the event.
In his brief remark, Governor Bala Mohammed recounted the events leading to the voluntary withdrawal from the race by the aspirants, noting that they all pledged their commitment to work with Obaseki.
The governor had on Thursday polled a total of 1,952 votes to emerge winner of the primary election.
Governor Obaseki was accompanied to the event by two aspirants who stepped down for him-Engineer Gideon Ikhine and Mr. Kenneth Imasuangbon.
In response, Obaseki said, “All that is left for one this afternoon is to tell you how I and my deputy are grateful to this great party.
“In our hours of tribulation when we were pushed out in the raging storm you gave us the umbrella. By the grace of God, victory is going to be ours at the end of the day.
“I want Mr. Chairman to thank my co-aspirants for being gracious enough to take the painful decision to step down after committing so much.”
