The Osun State government has announced that it recorded 14 new cases of COVID-19 and two deaths arising from patients who contracted the deadly virus in the state.
This was confirmed in Osogbo on Saturday by the State’s Commissioner for Health, Dr. Rafiu Isamotu.
He said that four patients were discharged from the state’s Isolation Centre after testing negative twice for COVID-19.
According to Dr Isamotu, the new cases were discovered following contact tracing of previous cases in the State.
“With the latest development, the number of our active cases as at today, Saturday, July 4 is 95. We have 165 confirmed cases, out of which the State has successfully treated and discharged 63 patients while seven deaths have been recorded,” Dr. Isamotu said.
Meanwhile, Governor Gboyega Oyetola had last week ordered total lockdown of four of the local government areas in the state over the rise in number of coronavirus cases.
The affected local government areas are Ilesa East, Ilesa West, Atakumosa East and Atakumosa West.
Oyetola said the lockdown which would last for seven days in the first instance was a resolution of the meeting between the government and the stakeholders from the area.
The lockdown is expected to commence on Tuesday, July, 7.
