Police Arrest Minors For Alleged Highway Robbery

Men of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested three suspected highway robbers at Alapako village along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

The suspects, Uzefa Idris, Adamu Yakubu and Ayuba Buhari were arrested on July 17, following a distress call received by the DPO Owode Egba Division.

The police had received a call that a Mazda bus was forcefully stopped on the highway by a gang of armed robbers and the occupants were being dispossessed of their belongings

This was contained in a statement by the State Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Abimbola Oyeyemi on Sunday.

He said, “Upon the distress call, the DPO Owode Egba SP Mathew Ediae quickly led his anti robbery team to the scene, on sighting the policemen, the hoodlums took to their heels but were chased into the bush where three amongst them were apprehended.

“The two victims of their operations, Oluwakemi Oyegade who was dispossessed of N545,000 and one itel phone as well as the driver, Zacheaus Olaniyi were rescued to the station.

“The two victims narrated that the hoodlums ambushed and forcefully stopped the vehicle, upon which they started beating them with matchet before dispossessing them of their valuables.”

The police recovered the sum of N97,000 and one itel phone from the suspects.

The Commissioner of Police in the State, Kenneth Ebrimson had ordered the immediate transfer of the suspects to special anti-robbery squads SARS for discreet investigation and prosecution.
