Lagos Fire Service Averts Double Tragedy

The Lagos State Fire & Rescue Service Agency (LSFRSA) has said that it averted two separate fire incidents over night.
Acting Head of LSFRSA, Mrs. Margaret Adeseye said this during a press briefing at the scene of the two incidents.
She explained that the first incident occurred at 0440hrs at Ozumba Nbadiwe Street, Victoria Island while the second occurred at Alaluko Bus Stop on Lagos – Abeokuta Express Way at about 05:14hrs.
“A 33,000 litres truck conveying petroleum motor spirit (pms) from a private depot at Apapa was on its way to service Enyo Petroleum Filling Station (PFS) at Ajah, however developed a mechanical fault at around the 1004 Estates when it tilted and spilled its contents.
“Firemen from Lekki Phase l station were mobilized to the scene to blanket the spilled products with chemical foam compound to avert a secondary incident.
“The fumes that could have triggered fire was doused while the remnants of the contents was trans-loaded to another tanker. The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) were also on ground to ensure free flow of traffic.

“The broken down truck was later towed off the road by officials of Lekki Concession Company to complement the effort of the traffic officers.
“The Alakuko incident involved another 33,000 tanker with registration number FST 32 XL, fully loaded with petrol (pms) reportedly lost control while negotiating a bend at the round about inward Toll Gate spilling its contents.
“Agege Fire Station salvaged the situation and oversaw the trans loading of the reminant petrol (pms) into another tanker with registration number MUS 52 XP.
“The Tanker which was on its way from hApapa to Master Energy PFS, Ekoro in Oke Odo area of Alimosho was later towed off to enable free flow of traffic,” Adeseye said.
