The family of Izuchukwu Madubueze, who committed suicide over a false rape allegation, have broken their silence on the incident.
Izu’s name had been published on a list of sex offenders by a Twitter user simply identified as Nanichi Anese (@nanichianese), who claimed to be an advocate for women that have been sexually assaulted.
The deceased tried to reach out to the Twitter user, whom he attended the same University with, to find out who his accuser was and clear his name. After all efforts went futile, he committed suicide.
Izu’s unfortunate ending sparked an outrage on Twitter, with tweeps calling for the arrest and prosecution of @nanichianese, who claimed that the accuser chose to remain anonymous and said the alleged sexual assault was “non-physical.”
Reacting to the incident in a statement released on Wednesday, Izu’s family pleaded with the public to refrain from further slanderous allegations against him.
The family also said there is an ongoing investigation into the incident by the police and assured that the culprit would be brought to book.
