The Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Godswill Akpabio, has written to the National Assembly, denying he said that the lawmakers got majority of the contracts awarded by the Niger Delta Development Commission, NCDC.

The speaker of the House, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila has earlier on Thursday issued a statement on Akpabio’s silence to name the lawmakers that benefitted from the contracts.

Gbajabiamila said a criminal complaint of perjury has been initiated against the Minister.

However, on Thursday afternoon, the Speaker said the Minister had written a letter where he claimed to have referred to old contracts awarded by the NDDC.

Akpabio had on Tuesday told the House Committee on Niger Delta that NDDC awarded most contracts to members of the House.

Gbajabiamila then issued a 48-hour ultimatum to the Minister, directing him to publish the names of the lawmakers or face the wrath of the House.

The Speaker said Akpabio’s response would be referred to the Committee on Ethics and Privileges to look at the merits of the minister’s arguments.
