COVID-19: Madagascar’s Herbal Cure Ineffective — FG

The Federal Government has shared its final report on the controversial Madagascar’s herbal drink, COVID-Organics.

Minister for Health, Osagie Ehanire, during the Joint National Briefing of the Presidential Task Force (PTF), on COVID-19, said the herbal drink has been proven ineffective against the virus..

He said the National Institute of Pharmaceutical Research and Development (NIPRD) final report stated that the drink did not show any evidence that it had real curative properties against COVID-19.

“The initial report showed that its main ingredient is the same as Artemisia annua.

“While the preparation at high dose showed activity in reducing the frequency of cough, it did not show any evidence that it has real curative properties against COVID-19.

“However, we shall continue to support all genuine efforts toward finding local COVID-19 cures,” the Minister said.

Madagascar’s President, Andry Rajoelina had boasted about the effectiveness of the herbal drink and touted it as a cure for the virus.

The country, as of Friday, has recorded 8381 confirmed cases, with 5,169l0 recoveries and 70 deaths.
