President Muhammadu Buhari at the weekend expressed sadness over the motor accident on Akaeze-Ukwu River in Ebonyi State Friday night, which involved a 30-passenger bus.
The bus was returning from a burial when it plunged into the river along the Akaeze-Ishiagu expressway, in Ivo Local Government Area of the state.
In a statement signed by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, Buhari noted that the thoughts and prayers of the government and people of Nigeria are with the families of the victims of the accident.
He further commended the Ebonyi State Government in spearheading the rescue and recovery efforts as well as the support it has received from the neighbouring state governments in that regard.
“We are saddened and aggrieved at this colossal loss of human lives,” he said.
