Ojodu ENDSARS Protesters Recount Police Brutality Experience

The Lekki Shooting of ENDSARS protesters has been a major reference for the violence that greeted Nigerians’ demand for the dissolution of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad Unit of the Nigerian Police Force.

Findings by AN24.net however reveal that Nigerian security forces opened fire on ENDSARS protesters in other parts of Lagos. Protesters who got shot at Iju Grammar School, Ojodu-Berger shared their experiences with An24.net as they received treatment at County Hospital, Ogba.

A victim, Adebayo Taiwo said he counted up to seven people that were shot at by the men of the Nigerian Police Force as the protesters demanded an end to Police and extra-judicial killings in the country.

He said, “It was around 10:00am when this happened. They just came out of the police station and started shooting at us but we did not respond to them until they shot at someone. The first person they shot, they carried him inside the police station then came back outside and continued shooting. I saw them shoot someone in the head. I am the seventh person they shot at.”

Taiwo noted that they just shot at defenceless people randomly and he saw the bullet enter diffferent parts of people’s body.

“Someone was shot in the arm, another in his head and someone else was shot in his leg. They also shot me in my stomach. I am sure I am the seventh person they shot,” he shared.

Another victim, Patrick Ubong corroborated claims of the alleged shooting. He noted that he even saw the police men shoot at people who tried to rescue and help someone they had shot in the leg.

Patrick said, “They shot two people and took them inside the police station. They shot another person in his leg and when people went to rescue him, they shot them down too. This happened at Iju Grammar School police station and they just kept firing at us for no reason.”

He however could not confirm the number of people shot.

County Hospital Supervising Personnel, Dr Patrick Osimi who spoke to our correspondent noted that they attended to four victims at no cost. Osimi said this was a trying time and it was important to prioritise life above money. He said the shooting of peaceful protesters was the hospital’s motivation for treating all victims at no cost.
He said the hospital took in four protesters with multiple gunshot injuries at different parts of their body and with different level of severity.

He said, “Well, the truth is that we are all Nigerians and we understand the times now. When they bring an injury into this hospital, we are known for lives first so we have been prioritising their health. I don’t even know some of their names but they have all been given treatment and are doing well at the moment.

“The reason we received them is because we know that these people were peaceful protesters who were shot at for no reason. The management and board of directors directed that all injured protesters should be attended to for free.”
