ASUU Agrees To Call Off Strike

Following recent abduction of one of its member, Prof Yinka Adegbehingbe by Fulani herdsmen, the Academic Staff Union of Universities, Obafemi Awolowo University branch, on Thursday called on the Inspector General of Police and Osun State Police Commissioner to address the rising incidence of kidnapping in the country or risk industrial action by lecturers.

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has agreed to call of its eight-month strike.

The leadership of ASUU reached the consensus during a meeting with the Federal Government team led by the Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige, in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital on Friday, November 27.

The Federal Government also pledged to increase the total payment to ASUU to N70 billion.

The Federal Government had last week accepted the demand by the ASUU that they be exempted from the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System.
