Fire Guts Katsina Central Market

At least 700 shops and stalls in Katsina Central Market were razed by fire on Monday.

It was gathered that the fire started about 7.30 a.m due to reasons yet to be known

The Items burnt along with the shops included household items, electronics, fabrics, food items, confectionery, and drinks, all of which are sold at the market in wholesale.

During the inferno, thieves and hoodlums seized the opportunity to loot shops, carrying items on foot and vehicles.

At about 11: 30 am, firefighters as well as sympathisers assisted in putting out the fire.

Meanwhile, a senior police officer has confirmed the arrest of some hoodlums involved in the looting

He said,” We have arrested several hoodlums who were trying to cart away some of the goods from the market and they are being detained but I cannot give you a specific number now as we are still arresting them.”

The Government has yet to make an official statement on the cause of the fire outbreak.
