The Ondo State Government on Tuesday sealed 15 medical clinics for violating rules and regulations guiding the operation of health facilities.

The Department of Hospital Services of Ondo State Ministry of Health sealed the facilities during monitoring and enforcement visits to medical clinics in Ondo South Senatorial District.

The team visited 36 medical clinics in Ore, Odigbo, Okitipupa, Ilutitun and Iju-Odo.

The Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Mrs Folukemi Aladenola, said that the exercise was geared toward enhancing qualitative healthcare delivery through eradication of quackery and all forms of sharp practices in the health sector.

According to her, the ministry is determined to ensure the realisation of the core agenda of the current administration in the health sector as encapsulated in its eight-point development agenda code-named REDEEMED.

She added that the agenda was efficient service delivery and effective healthcare and social welfare services.

Aladenola said that the Oluwarotimi Akeredolu-led administration would continue to prioritise the health of the citizenry and would not compromise on the required standards in the sector.

She said that facilities found to have violated the stipulated rules and regulations would remain sealed until the operators of such facilities would be ready to comply.

Dr Ayodele Adelusi, the Director of Hospital Services in the ministry and Leader of the monitoring team, reiterated the ministry’s commitment to regulating healthcare services in the state, both in public and private health facilities.

According to Adelusi, the quality of services in government health facilities must be the same as that of private health facilities.

Adelusi said the state government would not compromise on the essential requirements of any health facility including the state of the facility, the quality of staff and the standard of equipment.

He said that erring facilities would be sealed.

According to the director, the sealed facilities will not be re-opened until they meet the requirements.

The official said that security agents were on ground to ensure that the facilities remained closed.
