Fire Outbreak Destroy Shops, Causes Gridlock Under Eko Bridge

An early morning fire outbreak has destroyed over 10 shops and goods worth millions in the Apongbon area of Lagos State.

 

The incident which happened on Wednesday forced motorists to ply alternative route and has crippled commercial activities around the axis.

 

Residents narrated that the fire has spread to other parts of the market, even as men of the Lagos State fire service intensified efforts to put it out before it further damage the bridge.

They added that inflammable materials including baking ingredients stored in the shops could be reasons the fire service officials could not have been able to put it out immediately.

 

According to a tweet by Lagos State Traffic Management Agency, “Traffic from Eko bridge has been re-routed to Ebute-Ero to link inner marina. Men of fire service and other security agencies are still on the ground. Therefore, CMS bridge and Eko bridge inward/outward Apongbon is close to traffic at the moment.”
