Ahead of the 2023 general elections, members of the cabinet of the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, have challenged some executives of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for House of Representatives seats in the State.

Lagos State has 24 House of Representatives slots in the National Assembly. While some of the incumbent federal lawmakers who are already serving their first, second or third terms in the Green Chamber of the National Assembly, have declared their intention to seek re-election, others are expected to quit next year, thereby providing opportunities for new candidates to fill the vacuum.

The contest for the House of Representatives is currently pitching some members of the Sanwo-Olu cabinet against members of the Lagos APC executives, who have declared their intention to be APC candidates in the March 11, 2023, National Assembly polls.

AN24 gathered from reliable sources that while some Lagos State Executive Council members are still keeping their ambition to their chest, the Special Adviser to Governor Sanwo-Olu on Transportation, Mr. Oluwatoyin Fayinka, and his counterpart in the Central Business District, Mr. Olugbenga Oyerinde, have already declared their intention to contest for House of Representatives seats in Mushin II and Amuwo-Odofin federal constituencies respectively.

Fayinka and Oyerinde are expected to contest against the Lagos APC Publicity Secretary, Hon. Seye Oladejo and Organising Secretary, Comrade Ayodele Adewale, for House of Representatives seats in Mushin II and Amuwo-Odofin.

For Mushin II Federal Constituency, Fayinka and Oladejo, who are not leaving any stone unturned to clinching the party nomination and represent the people of Mushin II Federal Constituency in the lower chamber of the National Assembly, are expected to challenge the incumbent, Hon. Bolaji Yusuf Ayinla, who also want to return to the House for a third term.

Although very reliable sources, who are close to the aspirants revealed to AN24 that Bolaji Yusuf Ayinla’s chances of returning for a third term is slim due to health factor. Ayinla, we are told is currently not in a good state of health and may not secure the party nomination due to that factor.

Adewale and Oyerinde are expected to challenge the Chairman of Oriade Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Hon. Ramotalai Akinlola Hassan and the incumbent, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who is also aspiring to continue to represent Amuwo-Odofin Federal Constituency in the National Assembly.

AN24 also gathered from multiple sources that the Special Adviser to Governor Sanwo-Olu on Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mr. Solomon Saanu Bonu, will run for the Badagry I State Constituency in the forthcoming APC House of Assembly primaries. He has declared his intention to succeed the incumbent, Hon Ibrahim Layode, comes 2023.
The Special Adviser to Governor Sanwo-Olu on Commerce and Industry, Oladele Ajayi, is also an APC House of Representatives aspirant for the Ibeju-Lekki Federal Constituency.
Barring any last minutes change of mind, the Special Adviser to Governor Sanwo-Olu on Housing, Barr (Mrs) Toke Benson-Awoyinka may throw her hats into the ring for the House of Representatives contest in Ikeja Federal Constituency. She is likely to challenge Hon. James Faleke, who has been in the House of Representatives since 2011.
