BREAKING: Tension As PDP Shifts NEC Meeting
Ahead of the May 28 and 29 presidential primaries of the main opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), there is palpable tension as the party has shifted its National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting to 8 pm on Wednesday.
Top on the agenda of the NEC meeting is the issue of zoning arrangement with respect to the PDP presidential candidate ahead of the 2023 general elections.
AN24 gathered from reliable sources that the decision to shift the NEC meeting to 8 pm tonight was reached at the national caucus meeting of the party, held at the Benue State Governor’s Lodge in Asokoro, Abuja.
The postponement of the NEC meeting was announced by PDP National Chairman, Dr. Iyorchia Ayu, who also announced the postponement of the national caucus meeting to 4 pm and the Board of Trustees (BoT) meeting by 7 pm.
AN24 gathered that the NEC meeting was postponed till 8 pm because the national caucus of the party couldn’t reach an agreement on the contentious zoning yet as well as other issues surrounding the committees for the May 28 and 29 presidential primaries.
The caucus and NEC meetings are meant to take a position on whether or not the party should throw its presidential ticket open, based on the clamour in some quarters that the presidency should be zoned to the South.
