The President of the Women Arise, Dr. Joe Okei- Odumakin, has condemned the killing and burning of Ms. Deborah Samuel, a 200-level female student of Shehu Shagari College of Education in Sokoto State over alleged blasphemy.
Okei-Odumakin, a renowned human rights activist and women advocate in a statement she issued on Friday, implored people and the government of Sokoto State to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to book so as to deter others.
The President of Women Arise in her statement titled “The Immolation of Deborah Samuel” also advised the residents of Sokoto to shun violence.
“We received the news of the cruel lynching of Ms. Deborah Samuel, a 200-level student of Shehu Shagari College of Education, Sokoto with trepidation. It is alleged that she blasphemed.
“We stand to condemn such criminal act in strongest terms as life is sacred and should never be snuffed out of any human being without the judgement of a court of law.
“We hereby implore our people and the government of Sokoto State to eschew violence and ensure that the perpetrators are brought to book so as to deter others,” she said.
