The former governor of Anambra and ex-presidential aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr. Peter Obi, has formally joined the Labour Party (LP), to contest the 2023 presidential election.

He made this known on Friday via his verified Twitter handle.

The statement read, “I thank all Nigerians, especially our youths who have joined me in the mission of taking back and reuniting Nigeria.

“Since I resigned from the PDP because of issues that are at variance with my person and principles, I have consulted widely with various parties and personalities to ensure we do not complicate the route to our desired destination.

“Therefore, I have chosen a route that I consider to be in line with our aspirations and my mantra of taking the country from consumption to production; and that is the Labour Party, which is synonymous with the people, workers, development, production, securing and uniting Nigerians as one family.

Obi registered as a member of the Labour Party on Friday, May 27, 2022, in his ward in Anambra State, South-East Nigeria and he is expected to contest Labour Party’s presidential primary election next week Tuesday.

It would be recalled that Obi resigned his membership of the PDP two days before its presidential primary that was scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, May 28 to May 29, 2022.
