Dino Melaye Condemns Buhari’s Attempt To Pick Successor
A former Senator who represented Kogi West Senatorial District in the 8th Assembly, Dino Melaye has faulted President Muhammadu Buhari’s appeal to governors elected under the platform of the All Progressives Congress to support him to select his successor.
During a meeting with APC governors on Tuesday, Buhari sought their support to pick his successor in the forthcoming presidential election.
The president reportedly said, “In keeping with the established internal policies of the Party and as we approach the Convention in a few days, therefore, I wish to solicit the reciprocity and support of the Governors and other stakeholders in picking my successor, who would fly the flag of our party for election into the office of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in 2023.
“We gave governors re-election tickets or opportunity to pick their successors; allow me pick my successor.”

However, Melaye through a video posted on his social media accounts on Wednesday, described the move as dictatorial, unconstitutional, and sacrilegious, calling on Nigerians to resist such action as it is an attempt to impose a leader on them in 2023.
The former lawmaker said Nigerians must wake up and defend their hard-earned democracy against any form of attack.
The staunch supporter of the Peoples Democratic Party’s presidential aspirant for 2023, Atiku Abubakar said, “He (Buhari) deliberately used the word successor and not flag bearer or candidate of the APC. That statement has some negative impulse and mean that the president wants to impose the next president on Nigerians.”
He accused Buhari of trying to force his will on all Nigerians but said such will not be allowed as Nigeria must be rescued.
