Oyo 2023: Makinde Drops Deputy, Announces New Running Mate
Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, has made a U-Turn by choosing a new candidate as his running mate for the upcoming 2023 governorship elections.
Governor Makinde announced Barr. Bayo Lawal, one of his appointees and the chairman of Oyo State Housing Corporation, as his running mate thereby dumping his deputy, Engr. Rauf Olaniyan, ahead of the 2023 governorship election.
Lawal, as reported, was one of the three people positioned as a possible replacement for the Olaniyan, who is not in good term with Governor Makinde.

Governor Makinde emerged as the flag bearer of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for Oyo State during the party’s primary held on May 25.
Makinde, at the primary election held in Ibadan, the state capital, polled a total of 1,040 votes to defeat former Oyo State Deputy Governor, Hazeem Gbolarunmi who scored two votes.
