The former National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, Senator John Akpanudoedehe, has resigned his membership of the party.

Akpanudoedehe is immediate past National Secretary of the ruling party and had sought the party’s 2023 gubernatorial ticket for Akwa Ibom but failed to secure it.

The former minister on Monday hinted that his reason for leaving the party is due to the APC primaries in the state which was not in his favour.

He had earlier lamented that the national secretariat of the party sided a faction of the party working against his governorship ambition.

Akpanudoedehe is yet to disclose his next political move.

The letter dated 4th June stated in part that, “Henceforth, I cease to be a member of APC in my ward or anywhere for that matter. I hereby relinquish all rights which inured to me as a member of the APC, member of the national advisory council and member of the national caucus of the APC.

“This decision to part ways with the APC is a tough one, but leadership entails adherence to the wishes of the vast majority of associates, allies and supporters who have shown fidelity over time and have now witnessed the obduracy of the APC in handling the candidate selection processes in Akwa Ibom State.

“Our greater goal of providing service to the people of our dear state remains sacrosanct.”

Speculation have been rife that Akpanudoedehe was defecting to SDP. Findings from informed sources around Senator Akpanudoedehe said the Senator was heading to New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP where he will fly the governorship ticket of the party in 2023. A close aide of the Senator said their experiences in the APC has been bitter just as the experiences of Akwa Ibomites under the PDP.

“The new party we are bringing to Akwa Ibom State is represented with a basket full of fruits. You find pineapple, apples, banana and different fruits. You take fruits when you are malnourished and when you want to become healthy. We are presenting NNPP to Akwa to Akwa Ibom State. It holds the fruits that will end the bitter experiences of every Akwa Ibomites in the hands of APC and the PDP.

“We want our supporters to eat these fruits, give these fruits to their friends to eat and be happy. In 2023, we are bringing joy and happiness to the people of our State when they vote for Senator John Udoedehe,” he said.
