Owo Attack: Ooni Of Ife Reacts

Barely 24 hours after the gruesome massacre of Christian faithful in St. Francis Catholic Church, Owo, Ondo State, the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi has commiserated with the families of all the victims, and the entire people of Ondo State, praying for comfort and peace in these trying time.

He also commiserates with the Olowo of Owo, Oba Ajibade Gbadegesin Ogunoye Ill, and the entire Owo kingdom, Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, the Ondo State Government, the people of Owo, and the Priest and parishioners of St. Francis Catholic Church, Owa-luwa, Owo.

It would be recalled that about a year ago, an invading gang of killer herdsmen killed at least over 20 people in Igangan, Ibarapa North local government of Oyo State on a Saturday night, leaving several houses, the palace of the Asiganga burnt in the attack, whilst people were asleep.

Oba Adeyeye stated that this attack is targeted at turning Yorubaland into a war zone despite recording that descendants of Oduduwa are peace loving, cannot be overrun in our own homes, have the capacity and are prepared and ready to defend themselves against all external invaders.

Oba Adeyeye has tasked the President Muhammad Buhari-led Federal Government, the six governors of the South-West regions and well-meaning Nigerians “to live up to their oaths of securing Nigerians and ensuring safety for all citizens irrespective of their age, sex, religion or tribe.”

He stated that when calamities like this happens without appropriate actions, it shows a lack of adequate intelligence and poor security architecture which endangers the economic stance of the country.

Ooni urges a resolve to deploy manpower, resources and technology towards the protection of lives and properties even as he consults with Traditional rulers and governors across the southwest to come up with concrete plans to safe guard our people.

“We have deep obligations to them in the face of inadequate state security challenges that are threatening the fabric of our existence.
