AFCON Qualifier: Super Eagles Trash Sierra Leone 2-1

The Super Eagles of Nigeria have defeated Sierra Leone 2-1 in their first Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying match which took place at the Mashood Abiola National Stadium on Thursday.

Sierra Leone’s Jonathan Morsay opened the scoring in the 11the minute but Everton midfielder Alex Iwobi quickly levelled proceedings for Nigeria with a superb finish in the 16th minute.

Then Napoli striker Vitor Osimhen fired home the winner from Moses Simon’s headed assist in the 41st minute to earn the Nigerian side all points.

Nigeria now sit second in Group A with three points from one game.

While Guinea-Bissau are top of the table, though, with three points as Nigeria, they have a +4 goals advantage after hammering Sao Tome and Principe 5-1 in their own encounter.
