The Social Democratic Party has debunked claims that its party’s candidate for the 2022 Ekiti governorship election has withdrawn from the race.
This follows a statement attributed to Oni claiming that he had stepped down for the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Olabisi Kolawole due to the alleged illegality of the SDP’s National Working Committee members.
However, the Ekiti State spokesperson of the party, Gani Salau, said Oni has not withdrawn from the race, and that the letter is “a figment of the imagination of the opposition”.
“Segun Oni is not withdrawing. How can he withdraw on the day of the election? It is the work of the opposition.
“We are on the verge of victory and we are going to triumph. It is unfortunate that such a letter is being circulated,” he said.
The Ekiti state governorship election is scheduled for today, and already electoral activities have begun.
