INEC Dismisses Claim Of Illegal Registration Centres Outside Nigeria
The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Mahmood Yakubu has said that claims that the commission operates a voters’ registration centre in Niger Republic is false.
According to Yakubu, the Nigerian constitution prohibits INEC from conducting elections outside the country’s territory.
A Facebook user, Uche Nwabuike, had accused the commission of operating some illegal registration centres outside Nigeria.
He alleged that Nigerian electoral umpire has been registering voters in some parts of the neighbouring country.

However, the Chief Press Secretary to Yakubu, Rotimi Oyekanmi, refuted the allegations.
Oyekanmi spoke at a Twitter space organised by The ICIR on Permanent Voter Cards registration.
“By virtue of the provisions of the Constitution, all elections must take place in Nigeria.
“And to that extent, we cannot register voters or conduct elections outside Nigeria.
“This is why Nigerians in the Diaspora cannot vote from abroad,” he said.
