Ebonyi PDP Suspends Party Chairman Over Alleged N53M Diversion
Ebonyi State PDP has suspended its Chairman, Okorie Tochukwu over allegations of diversion of N53 million belonging to the party.
The decision was taken by the state Working Committee, noting that Tochukwu took the money without the consent of others who are signatories to the account.
The state PDP deputy Chairman, Ifeanyi Nworie, stated this after the committee’s emergency meeting in Abakaliki, on Monday.
According to him, the suspension was for a period of one month.
Nworie noted that the chairman also suspended because of his failure to organize executive meetings for a period of four months since he was reinstated by the Court of Appeal in Abuja.
Clarifying how the SWC came about the decision, Nworie said, they reviewed the activities of their chairman, Tochukwu Okorie and issues of his misconduct.

“The chairman has failed to organize a meeting for more than four months which is against the party’s constitution.
“The Deputy Chairman, the Legal Adviser, the Publicity Secretary, and the Women Leader were among those at the Emergency meeting.”
The Court of Appeal in Abuja had ordered the reinstatement of Okorie as Chairman of PDP in Ebonyi State and sacked Silas Onu, who was formerly the occupant of the position.
Reacting to the suspension, the party Chairman, Okorie Tochukwu described the action as illegal, saying, it is only the national leadership that can take such decision.
Tochukwu declared that he remains a member of the National Executive Council of the party and no member of the state working committee has the power to suspend him.
On his alleged gross misconduct, he said he is the chairman as directed by the court and that he has the prerogative power to access the party’s account in carrying its activities.
