Sri Lanka PM Sworn In As Acting President

The Prime Minister of Sri Lanka, Ranil Wickremesinghe, has been sworn in as the acting president of the country on Friday.

He replaced President Gotabaya Rajapaksa who fled to Singapore following months of protest against him.

In a brief statement, his office disclosed that the 73-year-old leader took his oath of office before chief justice Jayantha Jayasuriya.

Meanwhile, the country’s parliament on Friday announced that they will vote on a new president Wednesday.

Making this known, the Office of Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardana said nominations for the replacement of Rajapaksa will be received on Tuesday and MPs are due to vote the following day.
