The Man Kashim Shettima And The 2023 Vice Presidency-Anthony Ochela
Kashim Shettima Mustapha (born 2 September 1966) is a Nigerian banker, politician and was previously Governor of Borno State from 2011 to 2019 before his stint as Senator for Borno Central since 2019.
As a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), he is the party’s vice presidential nominee in the 2023 presidential election running alongside Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the party’s Presidential Candidate.
Bola Tinubu and the APC would be unveiling and formally presenting him to party faithful and the electorate on Wednesday.
Now an accomplished man, Kashim Shettima graduated from the University of Maiduguri and the University of Ibadan with Bsc and Msc in Agricultural Economics.
After schooling, he entered business and banking, eventually rising to hold several high-ranking executive positions at several banks.
Shettima was the manager of Zenith Bank’s Maiduguri office before leaving the position to enter the state cabinet of Governor Ali Modu Sheriff in 2007 and after four years in the cabinet, he was elected governor in 2011 and re-elected in 2015.
From 2007 to 2011, he served as Commissioner in 5 Ministries before rising to the topmost position in the state.

Shettima emerged the 2014 Governor of the Year (Leadership, Governor of the Year, 2015, (Nigeria Union of Journalists, national body); Governor of the Year, 2015 (NewsWatch); Governor of the Year, 2015 (Vanguard newspapers); Governor of the Year, 2016 (Tell magazine; 2017 Zik Prize for Leadership; Kaduna NUJ Award for courage and exceptional leadership (2017), FCT NUJ Merit Award for exceptional Leadership, 2017.
In February 2019, he became the winner of the Borno Central Senatorial District election, replacing Senator Babakaka Bashir.
With his nomination by Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and the All Progressive Congress party as their Vice Presidential candidate, Kashim Shettima comes along with a highly pronounced record of service in Agriculture, Banking, politics and governance; an experience that will be a plus for not just the APC but governance and the expectations of the people.
The most pressing national issue at the moment is security, particularly as it relates to the Northwest, and who can one say is better placed to understand and unravel that conundrum?
The place of Kashim Shettima on the APC ticket, however diversive opinions may be for what it portends for governance and religion, is a masterstroke on security and the well being of the people.
