Phone Addiction: What You Need To Know



Smartphone addiction is a disorder involving compulsive overuse of the mobile devices, this is usually quantified as the number of times users access their devices or the total amount of time they are online over a specified period.

The major question is how do we get to know we are addicted to our cell phone? When a person uses his/her cell phone most of the time, unable to cut back on cell phone usage, using cell phones as a solution to boredom, feeling anxiety or depression when your phone is out of your range, losing your relationships.

While it is common to see a whole family staring at their smartphones instead of talking to each other at a restaurant, it is definitely not something that should be regarded as normal or acceptable, but despite repeated warnings by medical and mental health experts, the problem only seems to get worse.

Excessive smartphone use can disrupt your sleep, which can have a serious impact on your overall mental health. It can impact your memory, affect your ability to think clearly, and reduce your cognitive and learning skills.

I spend way too much time on my phone, and you probably do too.

So, why are we on our phones so much? Sure much of today’s world is available at our fingertips, but there’s only so much to see before you exhaust all pertinent information. Seems 29 percent say they often find themselves aimlessly opening and scrolling through apps every few minutes, despite knowing nothing has changed

Let’s talk on Phone Addiction and Mental Illness

It can be concluded that anxiety or low self-esteem may be correlated with cell phone addiction. Such overuse of smartphones may lead to anxiety or depression, which can in turn result in mental problems. Therefore, adolescents with high anxiety/depression should be carefully monitored for mobile phone addiction.

The most effective way to change behavior is by educating children, but how does education begin when most adults are behaving even worse?
