2023: Nnamdi Kanu’s Release Will End Violence In S’East – Ezeife

Former Governor of Anambra State, Dr Chukwuemeka Ezeife, on Tuesday advised the Federal Government to release the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, if it wants peace in the Southeast region of Nigeria.

Ezeife EXCLUSIVELY told AN24 that many people are masquerading as members of the IPOB to unleash mayhem on Igboland but Kanu’s freedom would set things straight.

“We should not by ourselves try to make things difficult for ourselves. There is no reason to keep Nnamdi Kanu one more day in prison, a competent court, Federal High Court, has discharged and acquitted him. The Federal government is changing the language. If it is just only discharged, that is enough to release him.

“I think we should appeal to the President to stop the suffering in the South-East and Nigeria, to let Nnamdi Kanu go home, and impose on us, the elders of Igboland, the responsibility of controlling the situation. The moment you keep Nnamdi Kanu there, many people who are pretending to be IPOB, when they are not, are taking advantage and making life difficult in the South-East, and many of them are saying no election, burning down some places. If we are to allow Nnamdi Kanu out and he makes a statement, the whole world will know where he stands, and those who want to use his name to cause commotion will discover that all of us know the truth,” he said

He said Kanu is capable of cancelling the Monday ‘sit at home’ imposed on Southeastern states and water-down fears of attack before, during and after the 2023 general elections, but his followers will only listen to him if he is released.

The former governor continued that “Nnamdi Kanu cancelled sit at home on Monday. Has it stopped? Because some people say he didn’t cancel it, they didn’t see him say it, and if he were to be out, he will say it in the open and that everybody will know. Nobody will go and burn election materials, nobody will say that there will be no election, nobody will say come and vote and die.”
