BREAKING: Appeal Court Dismisses Suit Seeking To Sack Umahi, Deputy
The Court of Appeal in Abuja on Friday reversed the judgment sacking the Ebonyi State Governor, David Umahi and his deputy, Dr Kelechi Igwe.
The March 8 judgment by Justice Inyang Ekwo of the Federal High Court, Abuja sacked the duo for defecting from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
However, a three-member panel of the appellate court ruled that the defecting from a political party that provided a platform to get to office is not a crime according to the nation’s Constitution.
In the lead judgment, Justice Haruna Tsanami, the appellate court held that the only option opened to a political party, aggrieved by the defection of a Governor or Deputy Governor, is to explore the impeachment option provided in the Constitution.
