Yobe: Husband Starves, Locks Up Wife For One Year

A woman has been rescued from the detention of her husband after one year of allegedly keeping her away from sunlight and starving her.

The incident happened in Nguru town, Yobe State.

The victim identified only as Sadiya was rescued by her troubled mother, Hadiza, who reported that she was uncomfortable with the way her daughter sounded on phone, prompting her to travel from Kano State to Yobe.

Sadiya’s husband, Ibrahim Bature, is said to be the cousin of the former Director-General of NEMA, Mustapha Yusuf Maihaja and Nigeria’s Ambassador to Kenya, Yusuf Yunusa.

“The woman was starved by her husband who alleged that his family members are trying to harm her if she eats food.

“He only provides kunu (a local drink) to her whenever she demands for food and has prevented people from gaining access to her room”.

Reports also have it that Sadiya was rushed to Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, Kano, where she is currently receiving treatment with her mother demanding justice against her in-law, who according to her has damaged the life of her daughter.

She also called on the Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni to intervene.
