An ex-suspect, Yakub Yusuf, was arrested by the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of the Lagos State Police Command for stealing hours after he was released from jail.

According to the Command’s Police Public Relations, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the suspect, aged 23, was sentenced to one-month imprisonment for stealing at a government fuel dump in Alausa, Ikeja.

A Lagos court convicted him early November with an option of fine.

Less than two weeks into his term, a non-governmental organization facilitated his release by paying the fine.

After he regained freedom, Yusuf was nabbed again after illegally entering the Lagos State Fire Service premises.

Hundeyin via a tweet on Thursday disclosed that he stole valve covers of old fire trucks under repairs.

“Operatives of Rapid Response Squad on Saturday morning arrested an ex-convict hours after he was released from prison,” the spokesperson tweeted.

The RRS, led by CSP Olayinka Egbeyemi, has transferred him to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for prosecution.
