Osun: Adeleke Warns As Oyetola Appoints 30 Permanent Secretaries

The Osun State Governor-Elect, Ademola Adeleke has warned 30 newly appointed Permanent Secretaries by the incumbent state governor, Adegboyega Oyetola against taking up the post.

According to him, his government would not accept the newly appointed Permanent Secretaries when he is sworn in as the next governor in some days.

Adeleke’s reaction follows the appointment of 30 civil servants as Permanent Secretaries by Oyetola.

The names of those appointed were contained in a statement signed by the Head of Service, Dr Festus Oyebade.

Oyetola explained that those appointed would fill existing vacancies in the state civil service.

Recall that it reported on 31 October 2022 that Adeleke accused Oyetola of planning to appoint 15 of his loyalists as Permanent Secretaries.

The governor-elect alleged that Oyetola was already compiling names set to make the list of appointments, which he said would soon be announced.

He said in a statement that “when he assumed reign, he would re-assess the state of the bureaucracy in the state, with a view to enforce due process and ensure appropriate placement of senior personnel into various positions through an open and merit-based process.

“As an outgoing Governor, it cannot be good intentioned for you to appoint critical officials like permanent secretaries when a new leader is about to take over the administration of the state. The incoming governor has the right to determine the team he will work with. It should be clear that predetermining the makeup of the incoming government is an effort in futility.”

The development of Oyetola’s appointment comes even after he has about 48 hours to leave office.

However, Adeleke maintained his stand saying the appointees would leave the position once he becomes governor. also noted that Adeleke’s inauguration is slated for Sunday, 27 November 2022.

He clarified himself in a statement saying “We want to put on record that those who accept the appointments should be ready to leave the service whether or not their service tenure has reached statutory age.

“The occupants will be treated as political appointees who will automatically follow the outgoing governor out of public service from November 28.

“At the same time, those who still want to remain in service of the Osun State Government should decline the Greek gift from the outgoing governor. We affirm that no waiver will be entertained in sacking from office any kangaroo permanent secretary.”
