The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) the presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, is set to meet with Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State over the crisis rocking the party.

The G-5 governors, comprising of Governor Ortom, Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State, Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State, Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State and Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, had pulled out of Atiku’s campaign, demanding the resignation of the PDP National chairman, Iyorchia Ayu.

Recall that Atiku-Okowa Campaign Director-General, Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State had met with Ortom to broker peace and resolve the crisis rocking the main opposition party.

It was gathered that the proposed parley with Atiku was part of the outcome of the meeting last weekend in Makurdi between Ortom, who is the Chairman of the G-5 governors, and Tambuwal.

According to reports, Tambuwal was said to have advanced the idea that there is still hope for resolution of the protracted crisis before the elections.

Ortom, however, advised Tambuwal to reach out to the other governors in the Integrity Group, informing the Sokoto State governor that he alone cannot take a decision for the G-5.

A source privy to the discussion said, “Tambuwal came to seek reconciliation with Governor Ortom but Ortom told him that he cannot take any decision on his own, that he should meet with Wike and the other members of the G-5.”

The source also disclosed that arrangements would be made to receive the PDP presidential candidate and Tambuwal in Makurdi before Christmas in continuation of the effort to achieve peace in the main opposition party.
