11 Feared Dead As High Voltage Hits Kaduna Community

A high electricity power supply has reportedly killed at least eleven people in a community in Kaduna State.

Reports obtained by AN24.net today (Thursday) said the incident happened in Zazzau, Gwargwaje and Kauran Juli areas situated along the Zaria-Kaduna Expressway.

Narrating the incident, a resident who identified himself as Mallam Abdullahi Tanimu stated that the electric power supply was restored at high voltage in the area around 1 am and caused damages to gadgets after an indiscriminate spark.

According to him, the spark resulted in the fire that burnt the house of one Engr. Zubair Abubakar, while other houses continued to release smoke.

Among those killed by high voltage included; a pregnant woman, health personnel, and a police officer, among others.

Confirming the horrible incident, the Head of Corporate Communication, Kaduna Electricity Company (KEDCO), Abdulazeez Abdullahi, explained that the accident resulted from a high tension line snapping onto the low-tension line, which resulted in a voltage supply outside limits.

Abdullahi noted, “The source feeder was immediately opened in an emergency to avoid further damage.

The statement, however, commended the Emir of Zazzau, Malam Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli, for his support in managing the effect of the incident.
