Following the outcome of the June 18 governorship election in Ekiti state, the Ekiti Governorship Election Petition Tribunal is set to deliver its final ruling today (Thursday).

This was disclosed in a statement by the Secretary of the Tribunal, Mr. Umar Abubakar.

There had been speculations that the three-man tribunal led by Justice Wilfred Kpochi would deliver its final ruling on Wednesday, 28th December but Abubakar in his statement yesterday said the date given to the parties concerned is today, Thursday.

He added that today’s date for the ruling is sacrosanct and nothing can change it.

AN24.net understands that the judgment would be delivered at the tribunal venue, located in the premises of Ekiti State High Court, in Ado Ekiti.

The tribunal is set to deliver its judgment in the suit challenging the victory of the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Biodun Oyebanji at the polls.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had declared Oyebanji as the winner of the election but the Social Democratic Party (SDP) candidate, Segun Oni rejected the result and challenged the election outcome before the tribunal.

Oni in his complaint before the tribunal insisted that his party, the SDP, and not the APC scored the highest number of valid votes at during the election.

The three-member tribunal had on November 23 reserved judgment after listening to all the sides in the matter but is set to deliver its final ruling today.
