A police officer attached to the Delta State Police Command has been dismissed for killing a 26-year-old businessman, Onyeka Ibe, in Asaba, the state capital of Delta State.

The dismissed officer, Ubi Ebri, reportedly shot at and killed his victim on April 5, 2023, along Ugbolu-Illah Road of the state over the victim’s refusal to give a bribe of N100.

He, alongside his colleagues, fled the scene of the crime but were identified later by the command.

The deceased, who was a phone seller in the popular Ogbeogonogo Market in the state, was said to have rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Asaba, but was confirmed dead on arrival.

However, the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bright Edafe, on Tuesday said that the trigger-happy police officer has been dismissed.

The Police spokesman said Inspector Ebri will be charged to court today, Wednesday.

“Ubi Ebri has been dismissed from the Nigeria Police force and will be charged to court Wednesday, April 19, 2023,” the statement by the command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Edafe Bright, read.
