A rights activist, Deji Adeyanju, on Wednesday advised the President-elect, Bola Tinubu, to sack a board chairman of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, Lauretta Onochie, upon his assumption of office on May 29.

According to the public affairs analyst, Tinubu should make that as his first assignment due to the fact that she is a “sycophant”.

Tweeting, he lamented President Muhammadu Buhari’s attempt to appoint Onochie as a Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

He wrote, “The first person I want Tinubu to sack is Lauretta Onochie. How can such a sycophant be Board Chair of NDDC? He wanted to even appoint her as an INEC Commissioner, gosh! Nigeria really fell off under Buhari.”

Despite criticisms that trailed her nomination in December 2022, the Senate had confirmed Onochie as the substantive Chairman of NDDC.

Prior to her appointment, she was Buhari’s Special Assistant on New Media.

Buhari had requested the Senate to confirm Onochie as the substantive NDDC Chairman, a development that drew applause and condemnation in some quarters.
