Sanwo-Olu Seeks Support Of Traditional Rulers

Inaugurates Council of Obas and Chiefs
Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu has sought for the continued cooperation of traditional rulers as vital bridges between the people and the government and as fathers of their respective communities.
Sanwo-Olu solicited cooperation of the traditional rulers during the inauguration of the Lagos State Council of Obas and Chiefs held at the Lagos House, Ikeja on Wednesday.
Speaking during the inauguration of the 84-member Lagos State Council of Obas and Chiefs, Governor Sanwo-Olu commended the traditional rulers for their vital roles in ensuring peace, harmony, and stability, thereby creating a conducive environment for everyone in the communities to live, work and transact their businesses without fear or intimidation.
According to Governor Sanwo-Olu, the inauguration of the Council chaired by the Oba of Lagos, His Royal Majesty, Oba Rilwan Akiolu, attests to the high pedestal his administration places the traditional institution and its relevance to the contemporary governance structure and delivery of dividends of democracy.
“On our part, as an administration, we have supported our traditional rulers with welfare packages to enhance their mobility and general upkeep as well as the construction and renovation of palaces across the state. We expect that all of these will aid the seamless discharge of your duties in your respective domains.
“Let me assure all our royal fathers, that I will continue to cherish and rely on your support and wise counsel as we strive to raise the profile of Lagos State among the comity of modern city-states in the world; through a faith commitment to the implementation of our T.H.E.M.E.S+ development agenda,” the Governor said.
Governor Sanwo-Olu also charged the traditional rulers to collaborate more with the security agencies in the state as their collaboration with the government and its security agencies would help in safeguarding the peace that Lagos State has always enjoyed.
He also commended the traditional rulers for their support during the last general elections for his reelection. He also praised their contributions to the victory of President Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates at federal and state levels.
