NIS boss joins Lagos State Security Council

As Sanwo-Olu charges Immigration to make passport processing seamless for Nigerians
The Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu has announced the inclusion of the Lagos State Command Comptroller of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) as a member of the State Security Council.
Governor Sanwo-Olu made the announcement when the Comptroller of the Lagos State Command of NIS, Bala Aliyu Dangana, and other top officers of the Command paid him a courtesy visit at the Lagos House, Marina on Thursday.
He said it is important and strategic for the NIS to be part of the Lagos State Security Council since the Service is in charge of border, migrants, and citizen movements in Nigeria.
“The NIS will be part of the Lagos State Security Council and from the next Security Council meeting, we will invite you (Comptroller) so that we can introduce you to the whole team. It is a place where we discuss all security issues and I think if there is a value that an agency of government is bringing, it is important for us to ensure that they have full representation there.
“If an agency is in charge of border movement, migrants movement, and citizens movement; it is important for us to hear from you firsthand on a regular basis what you are doing. What are the strategies you are using to keep the place safe and what is the migration movement? So, it is important and strategic to have NIS in the Lagos State Security Council,” he said.

Governor Sanwo-Olu also commended the Comptroller and the NIS personnel on the recent identification of migrants that were not well documented and were not meant to be where they met them, adding that all hands must be on deck to repatriate illegal migrants.
The Governor also charged the Nigerian Immigration Services on reforms that will make issuing and collection of passports easier, quicker, and faster for Nigerians.
Speaking earlier, Dangana said NIS has redoubled its efforts in ensuring that Lagos State and indeed Nigeria is safe from cross-border crimes and improved migration management strategy in the delivery of service to Nigerians across the board.
He said the Nigeria Immigration Service maintains zero tolerance for corruption and corrupt practices.
Dangana acknowledged and commended the huge logistics support that Lagos State Command has received from the Babajide Sanwo-Olu administration, especially the generosity of the administration in the area of donation of operational vehicles to NIS and all security agencies in the State through the Lagos State Security Trust Fund.
“I want to reassure the Governor that the officers of the Nigeria Immigration Service in Lagos will work with you to keep Lagos safe and deliver on its mandate of migration management with the view of making Lagos State investors friendly and home to foreign residents in keeping with the mega city status and the administration’s THEMES+ Agenda,” he said.
