Lagos State Government has pledged to support the successful hosting of this year’s All Africa University Games to be jointly hosted by the Lagos State University (LASU), and University of Lagos (UNILAG), in September this year.

The hosting will be the second in Nigeria as Bauchi State hosted the first in 2004, organised for University athletes by the Federation of Africa University Sports.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu made the pledge during a courtesy call by a delegation led by the LASU Vice Chancellor, Professor Ibiyemi Tunji-Bello and UNILAG Deputy Vice Chancellor, Development Service, Professor Ayodele Atsenuwa, at the Lagos House, Marina.

Governor Sanwo-Olu said the support was due to the fact that sports remain a national unifier to maintain the physical well-being of Nigerians.

The Governor also urged the Universities’ leadership to explore partnership with the private sector as a marketing tool to sell Lagos and Nigeria to the global world for a successful outing.

Earlier, Tunji-Bello, expressed optimism that Lagos, known for its excellence performance in all ramifications, would set a model standard for the Games.

Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Tolani Sule, also commended the Governor for his supports for the advancement of quality tertiary education which was evident in the just released law school results in which LASU had ten first class students.
