Lagos To Roll Out 2,000 CNG Buses, 231 Electric Vehicles Before December
As part of measures to mitigate the economic hardship on Lagos residents, the Lagos State government through the Ministry of Transportation has revealed plans to roll out 2,000 compressed natural gas (CNG) buses and 231 electric vehicles (EVs), before the end of the year.
The Lagos Commissioner for Transportation, Mr Oluwaseun Osiyemi made the disclosure on Tuesday, during ministerial press briefing, held at the Bagauda Kaltho Press Centre, Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos.
According to Osiyemi, government is partnering with private firms under a PPP arrangement to acquire the CNG buses which would be distributed in two batches of 1,000.
This, he said, would ease the burden of the petrol subsidy removal on the residents of Nigeria’s largest commercial city.
He said, “We’re working with private operators under a PPP arrangement to launch over 2,000 CNG buses for residents to enjoy a carbon-free emission atmosphere.
