The Lagos State House of Assembly has called on Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to organize townhall meetings with major stakeholders to address the planned nationwide protest in the State.

The lawmakers, led by Speaker Mudashiru Obasa, urged the governor to engage with elected political leaders, traditional rulers, religious leaders, and other stakeholders to calm frayed nerves and ensure protection of lives and property.

The assembly’s plea comes after a motion by Majority Leader Noheem Adams, who noted the devastating impact of the 2020 EndSARS protest on Lagos.

The lawmakers appealed to the youth to be patient with the government, citing President Bola Tinubu’s efforts to improve the country.

Speaker Obasa commended the Lagos Commissioner of Police, Adegoke Fayoade, for meeting with community heads over the planned protest.

The assembly also called for an urgent meeting with all leaders in the state to discuss ways to dissuade the youth from participating in the protest.

Lawmakers who spoke during the debate urged parents to persuade their wards not to join the protest and emphasized the need for patience, citing President Tinubu’s efforts to address the country’s challenges.
