In a bid to champion sustainability and creativity, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State will unveil Pernod Ricard Nigeria’s innovative Upcycled Bottle Christmas Tree on December 21, 2024.

The unveiling, set to take place at the Ikeja City Mall Car Park, is open to the public and promises to be a highlight of the yuletide season.

With the theme “Sustainability Meets Festivity,” the project reimagines the use of discarded materials by transforming approximately 2,500 empty Jameson bottles into a striking Christmas tree. This initiative not only celebrates the festive spirit but also raises awareness about environmental responsibility and community engagement.

Michael Ehindero, Managing Director of Pernod Ricard Nigeria, emphasized the importance of the project. “This initiative seeks to promote sustainability and environmental awareness by showcasing creative re-use of materials. It also fosters community engagement and demonstrates our commitment to social responsibility,” he said.

Pernod Ricard Nigeria, a subsidiary of the world’s second-largest wine and spirits company, aligns the project with its four key business pillars: nurturing terroir, valuing people, circular making, and responsible hosting. The initiative also reflects the company’s dedication to advancing sustainability through its Sustainability and Responsibility Roadmap.

The unveiling will kick off 12 days of festive activations, inspired by the “Twelve Days of Christmas,” to engage fun-seekers and promote sustainable practices among the youth.

Governor Sanwo-Olu’s collaboration with Pernod Ricard Nigeria highlights his administration’s commitment to a circular economy and sustainable development.

The event is expected to draw widespread public interest, demonstrating how innovation and sustainability can transform Lagos into a greener, more responsible city.
